Nirupama Prakash PhD
Dr. Nirupama Prakash (India) is professor of sociology at Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, Rajasthan, India. She holds the administrative position of Chief, Women Studies & Societal Development Unit at the Institute. Prof. Prakash is the Coordinator, University Grants Commission Center for Women Studies at BITS, Pilani.
She is the Group Leader (Head of Department), Humanistic Studies Group and Co-ordinator, M.Phil program in Hospital & Health Systems Management.In the recent past she has been invited as Visiting Professor to teach summer courses on gender, socio-cultural and health issues at the Department of Sociology & Centre for International Health. George Washington University, Department of Arts & Humanities, University of Maryland at College Park and Department of Global Gender Studies, University at Buffalo, State University of New York, U.S.A. Professor Nirupama Prakash has contributed to research at national and international level. She was invited by Blaustein Scientific Cooperation, The Jacob Blaustein Institute of Desert Research, Ben Gurion University, Negev, Israel to work on a comparative framework on health and socio-economic conditions of nomadic females. She was also invited as a resource person by Newcastle University, UK regarding a project on Ageing. She was nominated by NAM S&T center to participate in International Workshop on "Empowerment of Women Through Science & Technology Interventions", held at Tehran, Iran.
Professor Nirupama Prakash has many publications in national and international journals/books and has been invited to various forums in India and abroad to present papers on social & women issues.
She has organized many national and international conferences and workshops at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani where she teaches courses on sociology, health systems, gender Issues and conflict management. She is deeply involved in undertaking many activities for women empowerment under the aegis of Center for Women Studies.
