Farida Akhter
Farida Akhter (Bangladesh) is the Executive Director of UBINIG a policy and action research organization in Bangladesh working with the farming, weaving and rural and urban communities in Bangladesh.
She also runs Narigrantha Prabartana, the first and only feminist bookstore and feminist publishing house in Bangladesh. PWRDF has been supporting the activities of Narigrantha Prabartana and UBINIG for over 10 years. Farida has been actively involved in the national level women’s movement and is an active member of various international networks such as FINRRAGE (Feminist International Network for Resistance against Reproductive and Genetic Engineering) etc. She is a member of various national and regional networks such as the South Asia Network on Food, Ecology and Culture (SANFEC). Sammilita Nari Samaj, the United Women's Front in Bangladesh and Council Member of Asian Women’s Human Rights Council (AWHRC). She has written several books in Bangla and in English. Among them are Depopulating Bangladesh Essays on the Politics of Fertility and Reproductive Rights (1996), Seeds of Movement: On Women’s Issues in Bangladesh (2007).
