Asia Pacific Women’s Conference on Peace and Security: VISIONS FOR A NEW WORLD
The current crisis of patriarchy is an opportunity for women to create the reality of our own Vision of a New World. It is now time for women to take the lead in discourse and action amidst the current global financial crisis and the spiraling imperialist wars.
The patriarchal empires of economic, political and military power are weakening and showing signs of imminent collapse in many countries.
The economic meltdown shows how the neo-liberal system that whets the greed of an elite few shall eventually devour itself.
Wars and internal conflicts rage as peoples and nations struggle to oppose the yoke of empire.
Even Mother Earth is fighting back against the pollution, ravage, and plunder of her resources; by restoring equilibrium in her ecosystems though her own means of environmental cleansing.
The Asia Pacific Conference on Women’s Peace and Security: VISIONS FOR A NEW WORLD will be hosted this September 8-10, 2009 in Manila, Philippines by the Peace Women Partners-Asia Pacific in partnership with the Center for Peace and Human Rights Education of the Philippine Normal University.
The Conference aims to bring women of the world together to discuss critical issues for women’s peace and security in Asia and the Pacific:
Women are not mere victims but survivors who can live through and heal beyond all forms of violence – from nuclear bombing and testing, to rapes in war, and even sexual assault within the confines of our own homes.
Women create our spaces and communities every day despite poverty and exploitation in a globalized world order that converts our labor and our own bodies to mere commodities for sale;
More and more women are becoming aware of the new fronts of silent wars being waged against us through the artificial technologies that would fragment our bodies and turn us into mere wombs for bearing babies; while the crops that are being genetically modified are poisoning us.
Women are caretakers that protect ecosystems from being destroyed by the greed of industrialized farming, militarism and corporate exploitation; as we endeavor to restore balance in our farms and communities.
Women are healers, peacemakers, and negotiators in the midst of conflicts within our tribes, communities and nations.
Together, we want to discuss the threats to peace and security in the region, from women’s experiences and perspectives, and to present the opportunities for defending and promoting women’s peace and security. We want to develop common Strategies for Action for Women’s Peace and Security
Papers, artistic expressions, posters, craft exhibits and sales are welcome.
